Getting Started

In a healthy diet, it is important to maintain a balanced intake of the three main food groups.

They Are

  1. Good Fats

  2. Lean Proteins

  3. Good Carbs (carbohydrates)

The Pocket Change Diet uses coins to represent these three categories.

Quarters = Good Fats

Dimes = Lean Proteins

Nickels = Good Carbs

Pennies are Flex-Coins

We will look at each of these categories in depth, examining how to properly shop, cook and eat within each food group.

Before we do, you can make the following preparations if you like:  

Preparations

  • Find a coin purse with two compartments.
    (In a pinch, you can use Zip-Lock bags.)

  • Fill one compartment with the following coins:

    • Three Quarters

    • Seven Dimes

    • Seven Nickels

    • Eight Pennies

  • Download and print a few copies of the...

    (One for your refrigerator door, one for work, one to take shopping, etc.)

  • Download and print the Pocket Change Diet -  Cheat Sheet, cut it down to size and keep it in your coin purse.
